Mr W. Skelly, representing the Bucyrus Dragline Dredge Co., Ltd., of America, is at present in Paeroa. In company with Mr L. May, local Public Works engineer, he is making a tour of inspection of the dredges in this district. The death of the well-known old Maori Paraku Rapana occurred a few days ago in Auckland. Paraku was a first, cousin to the Maori Chief Haora Tareranui, of Paeroa. For many years Paraku followed fanning pursuits in Kauere, Komata, and latterly at Tapu, Thames. A large tangi is to be held at Haora’s meetinghouse, on Maori Flat, where t,he body is lying in state. A large gathering of Natives is anticipated.
