POLICE COURT.
TUESDAY, MAY 1, 1923. (Before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M.) CATTLE TICK. | At the Police Court yesterday Tet: i Kura was charged, on the informs- i tion of Mr J. P. Findlay, Inspector of Stock, Paeroa, with removing a horse J from a cattle tick infested area with out, first obtaining a permit. Tete Kura pleaded guilty, and said he was ignorant of the Act. His Worship said that as this was the first case of the kind in the district defendant would be convicted and discharged on payment of 14s 6d costs, FAILURE TO ATTEND PARADES. Further evidence was taken in t,h’case against Desmond C. Smith for failure to attend parades. Lieut. Cassrels, sworn, stated that Smith had been granted one month’s leave from March 20 to enable him to visit Auckland. Sergt.-Major Busby said that on. the dates of two parades Smith was m Paeroa, yet did not attend. The Magistrate suggested that in view of the fact that Smith was granted leave the charge should be withdrawn. Sergt.-Major Busby consented. MAINTENANCE CHARGE. Robert Stevenson was charged with failing to provide adequate maintenance for his wife, Beatrice E. M. Stevenson, since February 12, 1923. There was no appearance of defendant, and after hearing the evidence of the claimant and her parents. the Magistrate ordered that maintenance at the rate of £2 a week, and costs £4 10s, be paid.
