GOLF.

SUCCESSFUL OPENING. There was quite a representative gathering of the Paeroa Golf Club members and visitors present at the local links on Saturday afternoon to take part in the official opening of the golfing season. The day was beautifully five, a fact Which no doubt induced a number of spectators to r>e in attendance. •

The game for Hie afternoon was a iqixed foresomes, 12 holes, over th? men’s course. Tlie greens were in very fair order, and generally the links were considered very satisfactory. The jockey Club very kindly made the large dining room available, ajnd a delicious afternoon tea Was provided and served by the lady members.

The president. Dr. Gilbert Smith., in a neat ■ little' speech, welcomed the visitors to the links and also presented the prizes woh during the afternoon’s play. Mr Hunger, of Te Aroha, returned thanks on behalf of the visitors for the delightful afternoon spent, and wished the club a successful season.

The best cards handed in were: Mrs Bain and Hunger, 68—12—56; Mrs Hunger and Bishop, 67 —10'—57 : Mrs Arthur and Byrne, 75—15—60 : Miss McGlashan and Kenny, 76—1860 ; Mrs Peacock and Hanna, 79 — 18— 61; Miss Walmsley and Budd, 73 — 11__62 ; Mrs Budd and O’Neill, 77—12 —65 ; Mrs Andrews and Dales, 86— 20—66 ; Mrs McGlashan and Somervell, 79—13—66 ; Mrs Bliss and Edwards, 85—17—68 ; Mi-s Lipsey and Hedge. 91—16—75. The opening of the Te Aroha club is to take place on Saturday next, when no doubt a number of local players will take advantage of the invitation to be present.
