ST. PAUL’S SOCIAL.

e ENJOYABLE EVENING. The social and dance organised by the st. Paul’s Choir and friends, held in the Central Theatre on Thursday, was an unqualified success. The evening was fine, with a tinge of frost in the air, making it very pleasant for dancing. The floor was hardly satisfactory. However. Mr “Brookie” Christian at the piano delivered such irresistible music as to make the dancers almost forget the state of the floor. In commenting adversely on the floor, it, is only fair to say that the committee spared no efforts to insure a good dancing surface, but, unfortunately, the boards of the Central Theatre will not respond to treatment satisfactorily. . For those who were hot inclined to dance a euchre tournament was held, and provided keen competition and fun in the struggle for the valuably prizes offered. The first prize in the ladies’ competition' was won by Mrs Treanor, whilst Mrs E. Edwards captured the second prize. In the gentlemen’s division the first honours went to Mr G. McKee, Mr M. Crosby being runner-up.

A delicious and dainty supper was served shortly after 11 p.m. The floral deeprations were both pretty and effective, and comprised cosmos, chrysanthemums, and dahlias, together with beautiful autumn leaves and lycopodium. Mr E. Edwards carried out the duties of M.C. in a very attentive manner. Extras were contributed by Mrs Staunton and Miss L. Vincent. Mr G. N. Hart and the committee associated with him are to be heartily congratulated on the success of the social. Tlie cause for which it was promoted is a worthy' one, and it is anticipated that the objective has been gained.
