PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL
COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Pacroa District High school Committee was held on Saturday evening. Present : Messrs C. H. Pascoe (in the chair). B. E. Veale, E. EL Gillman, N. ’ C. Busby, L. C. Cane, W. T. Power, ■ and W. L. Lawrence, secretary and ■ treasurer. The headmaster, Mr G. H. Taylor, was also in attendance. i INFANTS’ DEPARTMENT. The T> ja-’d’s architect, Mr J. Farrell, paid a visit to the school during the mon'h. He conferred with Messrs Pascoe Gillmaii, and the headmaster on- matters pertaining to the school. In reference to additional lighting and ventilation of the infants’ department Mr Frrrell agreed with the commit I e that it was insufficient, and that a derations were most necessary. A*-- a result an additional skylight has beep promised,, and when received it will be fitted up at the committee’s expense. The installation of t.lic skylight will certainly improve matters very considerably. SANITATION. During the architect’s visit representations were made tp him by the committee for increased sanitary accommodation. Tlie architect, whils* admitting the reasonableness of the request, said that the Education Board was not prepared to make further etxensions at present. However, the matter would receive consideration as sooii as the finances of the Board permitted. BUBBLE FOUNTAINS. The ten drinking bubble fountains purchased by the committee, and which have been installed .in various parts of the playground, were reported by the headmaster to be working satisfactorily. They were a decided acquisition, and much appreciated by the children. NEW PLAYING AREA. It was decided that the new playing area in the boys’ playground should be sanded as soon as possible, the cost ‘ would be approximately £l2 to £l5. The secretary was'instructed to apply to the Board, and ask for financial assistance in carrying out the work. ROCK FENCE. x Mr Gillman said that he regretted the unavoidable delay that had occurred in completing the building of th? rock fence in Wood Street. The work would, however, be completed very shortly. EMPIRE DAY MESSAGE. On the motion of Mr Gillman, seconded by Mr Busby, the secretary was instructed to communicate with the Director of Education, Wellington, with reference to the gramophone records that are being prepared, and which will contain a message from Their Majesties the King and Queen, to be distributed among the schools lin New Zealand on Empire Day. May 24, ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £24 16s lid were passed for payment. FELICITATIONS. This meeting being the last one of i the present committee complimentary ; references were exchanged between the members, the chairman, headI master, and the secretary.
