THE THAMES HARBOUR.
TUKUA’S OBJECTION. At the meeting of the Turua Ratepayers’ Association on Friday last Mr McMillan reported that Mr Madgwick. Mr Sutton, and he had attended the Netherton meeting and found that Netherton was opposed lt,o the scheme. Ho suggested that men opposed to the scheme should be nominated as members of the Thames Harbour Board. In reply to a question Mr McMillan explained the representation on the board. A peculiar position was that Paeroa Borough had no representation. Mr McMillan also reported on his vis't to Morrinsville as one pf those opposed to the scheme. At a later meeting it was announced that the Piako County Council was dead against the scheme, but its repiesentative on the board was for the scheme. In the boroughs every resident had a vote on the election of a member, but only ratepayers had a vote on the loan proposals. It had been suggested that Mr J. McCormick, of Matatoki, a man who was for the scheme, had been nominated. As a ratepayer.must, vote for two men or his vote was informal, and the only other men standing were Mr Harris, who was for the scheme, and Mr Laughlin, who was opposed he sugI gested that another man opposed to I the scheme be nominated. Mr Madgwick suggested Mr McMillan. who, however, declined. Mr Luke suggested that several men opposed to the scheme be nominated. They could later withdraw if necessary. After much persuasion Mr McMillan promised to favourably consider becoming a candidate. -
