CROQUET.

PRESIDENT’S AFTERNOON. The president of the Paeroa Croquet Club (Mrs W. H. Taylor) gave an afternoon on the local croquet lawns cn Saturday. Progressive croquet was played and an enjoyable afternoon spent.. The prizes for competition were donated by the president, and were won by Mrs Houlihan in the “A” section and Mrs Barclay in the “B” section. During the afternoon the opportunity was taken by the members to say farewell to Mrs F. Houlihan, who is shortly leaving Paeroa to take up her residence in Auckland. The president after a few well-chosen words handed Mrs Houlihan a gift from the members of the club to serve as a reminder of the many happy days spent on the Paeroa lawns. Mrs Houlihan, who was completely taken by surprise, warmly thanked the members for their kindly action and the good wishes that prompted it. Last Wednesday a special afternoon was held to compete for trophies do. natnd by Mrs E. H. Andrews, a former member of the club. Piogressive croquet competitions were carried out. Some very enjoyable games were played, and a close and interesting finish resulted in Mrs Towers securing first honours in the "A” section, while Mrs Byrne annexed tne prize in the “B” section.
