kerepeehi. SPORTS CLUB. At a meeting of the Kerepeehi Sports Club .held recently a programme of horse and chopping events similar to last year was drawn up. With the object of encouraging professional choppers to visit the meeting the club has included a special chon with a 12sec. handicap. ONGAREHU BLOCK. The Lands Department is at present laying off roads and footpaths on the Ongarel’ti Block, Kerepeehi. At present the area is dotted with workmen’s shanties, and this work will lo much to improve the appearance of the place. THE WHARF. The Lands Department wharf at Kerepeehi is now practically finished. The ten ton crane has been erected, and is now in working order. Astaii will be made this week with the erection of the wharf shed. NGATEA. STOCK SALE. There was a very fair yarding of stock but few buyers at the Loan and Mercantile Co’s sale at Ngatea on Monday.’ A nice line of Jersey heifers sold at £B, .and some Jersey cows sold at £9. Other dairy cows brought up to £B. and heifers up to £4, Bulls realised from 20s to £5. Store cows sold up to £4, and steers up to £6. PROPOSED FIRE BRIGADE; As a result of a Are at Ngatea recently, in which a bakehouse was completely destroyed and a residence nearby only saved by the Herculean efforts of a bucket brigade, the idea of a volunteer fire brigade has been mooted. A public meeting will be held to morrow at 7 p.m. to further the project. WAITAKARURU. SOCIAL _ AND DANCE. A grand concert and dance in aid of the hall piano fund was held on Wednesday, and proved a great success. A concert party drawn from the neighbouring, districts and Auckland were much appreciated, and members had to decline further encores as tinie did not permit. Miss R<. Hilford and Mr R. E. Rountree were the accompanists. Over 50 couples stayed for the dance, which w.as carried on till an early hour. The results of the waltzing competition were: Mr 15Ferrall and Miss Pailey 1, Mr F. Nicols and Miss D. Harris 2. The music was supplied by Henderson’s orchestra and Mr R. Hunter, and Mr W. McGuiness made an efficient M.C. TUBTTA. CHURCH CONCERT. A concert organised by the members’ of the Turua Presbyterian Church to raise funds .to instal the electric light in the church was held in the hall last evening. There was a large attendance, and about £5 was taken at the door. Pianoforte, solos were rendered by Mrs Pentecost and Mr Harris, stepdancing by Miss Combes, of Thames, humorous dialogues and s'ongs by the “Two Bobs” (Messrs Mellor and Hobin, of Ngatea), and songs by Miss Darby, Miss Mrs Cresswell, Mrs Zeigler, and Messrs’ Sutton, Johnson, and Cassin.
