SUPPLY OF ELECTRICITY.
CLAIM FOR LOSS. At the meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board held yesterday, a Jotter was read from t,hc N.Z. Cooperative Dairy Company advising that, serious inconvenience . had been caused to the Waitoa factory by the stoppage and irregular supply of electricity during October-November, and as a result a loss of £254' was incurred. ' This, the writers considered, should be refunded by the hoard. The Public Works Department, Hamilton, reported that the stoppages of October were responsible for £2Ol of the loss sustained, but there was no liability against the department, and no steps should be taken to refund the money.
The Board’s engineers expressed the opinion that the Dairy Company ha:l no claim either on the board or the department 1 , as a clause in the agreement made it quite clear that the Minister “shall not” be held responsible for damage/ loss, or inconvenience arising out bf any interruption in the supply.
The Dairy Co., in a further letter, held that the Board was responsible, as the control of supply was in their hands. n'he chairman said the correspondence was being submitted to the Board’s solicitor, the Finance Committee having decided that the Board was not liable. Mr Thomas said steps slhould, ’U any case, be taken to avoid a recurrence of similar trouble. The chairman said every reasonable care was being taken to prevent similar trouble again occurring.
