matches on the plains. WAITAKARURU WINS- SHIELD. , On Saturday last a team from the Waitakaruru Tennis Club visited Kopp and wrested from the Kopu Tennis Club the Williams Memorial Shield. Although many close games were witnessed, the visitors from the hard courts had the advantage, and maintained their lead right through. The following are the details' of the play, Waitakaruru being mentioned first: — Ladies’ Singles.—s—7, 6 —3. Ladies’ Doubles. —4—6, 4 6. Men’s Singles. —6 —o, 6 3; 6—2. Men’s Doubles.' —6—2, 6 —4, 6—2. Combined Doubles. —8 6, 6 8. Totals : Waitakaruru 75, Kopu 49. Many clubs have put in challenges for this shield, and it is expected that Waitakaruru will be called upon to defend their possession in a fortnight. KAIHERE V. KEREPEEHI. A representative team from the Kaihere Club played Kerepeehi at Kerepeehi oh Saturday, and after putting up a splendid fight, was defeated by the narrow margin of four games HOPAI V. KOPU AR AHI. Kopuarahi proved themselves better than Hopai on Saturday, at the Hopai courts. . The scores were as follows, Kopuarahi being mentioned firjt^. — Ladies’ Singles.—6—4, 5—6. Laities’ Doubles. —6 —o, 6—l. Men’s Singles'.—6—s, 6 —5, 26, 6—4. Men’s Doubles. —I—6,1 —6, 3 —6, 6 —2. Totals. —Kopuarahi 53, Hopai 45. The Hopai team was hardly representative of the strength of the club, as some of .their best players were away
