VALEDICTORY.
THE TOWN CLERK. COUNCIL’S APRECIATION. At Tuesday night’s meeting pf the Borough Council complimentary ref reences were made to the town clerk, Mr P. C. Furley, who will shortly depart to Birkenhead, where he has been appointed to a similar position, after having been town cleik in Paeroa for nearly three years. His Worship the Mayor said he wished to express his personalf appreciation of Mr Furley’s services and capabilities. Mr Furley had come to Paeroa as a “new chum,” without experience, and had made good from the start, and had carried but his duties with success, and by his never failing courtesy and strict attention to the interest oX the borough work generally had amply justified the council s entire approbation. His Worship said it was the unanimous wish of the councillors they should express their appreciation of. his services in some tangible form, and he had much pleasure in asking Mr Furley to accept a cheque for lOgns, together with hearty good wishes to himself and family f° r future success and prosperity in his new sphere.
Cr. W. Marshall endorsed the remarks made by the Mayor, and said as chairman of the Finance Committee he had come into personal contact with Mr Ferley a great deal, and he had pleasure in saying that, he found his work always thoroughly up-to-date in every respect. There was no doubt that. Mr Furley had made good in a very creditable manner, and was justly entitled to <the appreciation of the councillors and ratepayers of Paeroa. He (Cr. Marshall) .wished to express his regret at Mr Furley’s departure and towish him every success in the future.
Cr. Flatt, chairman, of! the Domain Board, sa,id he wished Ao echo the sentiments of the previous speakers, and he, too, regretted Mr Furley’s departure, but wished him good luck for the future and trusted he would remember that Paeroa would always extend to him a hearty welcome at any future time that he ■should be visiting here. ‘ Cr. Leach briefly added his quota of praise and appreciation of the town clerk’s services and integrity. Mr Furley feelingly acknowledged the council’s token of esteem and goodwill and thanked them for .their kind remarks, and said it was very gratifying to him to know that he had made good and that his efforts had been aprpeciated. Any success that had been attained, he said, was due to the kindly consideration, help, and forbearance that had been extended to him Ly His Worship the Mayor and Cr, Marshall in particular, and he was most grateful to them all.
