DISTRICT NEWS.

SUCCESSFUL DANCE. A dance to raise funds for a library was held at Patetonga on Tuesday last and proved very successful. Final returns are not. yet. available, but over £ll was taken at the .door. The. hall was tastefully decorated, and there was a large attendance, including many from Ngatea and other parts of the Plains- There were several novelty dances, arid during the jazz, coloured paper streamers ■were thrown, causing a very pretty effect and some amusement, by tangling up the dancers. Mr Bolton and Miss Newdick were awarded first prize in the waltzing competition, with Mr and Miss Muir second. Mr Mawkes* and Mr Christie a'cted as M’s.C and kept things moving. Supper was supplied by the ladies and was much appreciated. IURUA. THE SPORTS MEETING.

The Hauraki Athletic and Sports Culb’s meeting to be held on the >27th inst., promises to be a huge success. Mr Bennett, the energetic secretary, reports that entries for all the running and chopping events are pouring in. The track is in first-class order, and a hundred good kahikatea blocks have been obtained for the chopping events. A working bee will be held next Saturday on the ground.

KEREPEEHI.

ELECTRIC POWER AVAILABLE. The electric power wires as far as Kerepeehi township were made “alive" yesterday, and a motor in the Lands Department’s fitting shop given a trial. So far very few houses have been wired for lighting, and people are impatiently waiting for the opportunity of making use of the "juice.” PIPIROA. The love of dancing was the motive actuating the promoters of a dance at Pipirpa. last night, and their effort was gratifying to them as well ns pleasing t'o the visitors. The evening whs cool, the floor perfect (it is well known as the best, on the Plains), and the music and the supper were excellent. Moreover, the attendance was sufficient to show a credit balance, yet not too crowded to mar the dancing.
