COUNTY FINANCE.

HAURAKI PLAINS COUNCIL. CLERK’S REPORT. The county clerk (Mr E. Walton) submitted the following statements to the Hauraki Plains County Council meeting on Monday last: The riding balances are as follow : Waitakaiuru, credit balance, £297 2s 4d ; Turua, debit balance, £346 2s 5d : debit balance, £ll2 10s 9d; Netherton, debit, balance, £45 16s 4d ; Tabun,a, debit balance, £205 ,13s sd. Debit in County Fund, being general rate anticipated, £413 0s 7d.

The balances in the loan accounts on December 31, 1922, were : Netherton roads loan, £1757 Bs, Tahuna roads loan, £638 3s 7d; Kppu ferry approach roads loan, £272 s 4 7d>; Waitakaruru roads loan, £1 Is sd; Puriri f.rery and approach roads loan, £404 12s lOd ; Ngataipua East road loan, £2'sl 12s 6d ; housing loans, £1495 6s

The receipts for the month of December were General rate £62 12s lid, hospital rate £2B 15s 9d, Kopu ferry special rate £2 17s, Kopu ferry approach roads special rate £3 4 s lOd, Waitakaruru roads special rate £1 11s 3d, Waihou bridge special rate Bd, antecedent liability special rate £1 Ofe Ud, penalty £4 16s Bd, court costs £1 9s, exchange Is, motor registration fees £1 10s, rate suspense account £l6, Government subsidy £5OO, Government grant, Morrinsville to Tahuna, £945. Total, £1569. The credit balance as per cash book of the county fund account on December 31 was £2152 17s Bd. GENERAL RATE STATEMENT. The general rate statement at as December 31, 1922, w<v : Turua Riding.—l92l-22 arrears at March ' 31, 1922, £823 7s 6d ; struck 1922-23, £1587 15s 6d ; total, £2411 3s. Of the rates collected arrears amounted to £602 17s 4d ; 1922-23, £379 8s lid ; total, £982 6s 3d. The total expenditure was £1328 8s Bd. Waitakaruru Riding.—l92l-22 arrears at March 31, 1922, £lOO9 5s 2d ; struck 1922-23, £1172 16s sd; total, £2182 Is 7d. Of the rates collected arrears amounted to £924 x 16s Gd; 1922-23, £176 Ils 7d ; total, £llOl 8s Id. The total expenditure was £BO4 5s 9<i. Patetcnga Riding.—l92l-22 airears at March 31, 1922, £566 4s 3d ; struck 1922-23, £734 3s 4‘d ; total, £l3OO 7s 7d. Of, the rates collected arrears amounted to £330 4s Id ; 1922-23, £175 Ils 4d ; total, £so’s 15s sd. The .total expenditure was £6lB 6s 2d. Netherton Riding.—l92l-22 arrears at March 31, 1922, £1295 4s 3d; struck 1922-23, £2173 ; total, £2468 4s 3d.’Of the rates collected arrears amounted to £1124 16s 5d ; 1922-23, £342 19s 8d; total, £1467 16s Id. The total expenditure was £1513 12s sd.

Tahuna Riding.—.l92l-22 arrears at March 31, 1922, £794 19s 51; struck 1922-23, £1165; total, £1959 19s sd. Of the rates collected arrears amounted to £406 9s Id : 1922-23, £ll7 3s 4'd ; total, £523 12s sd. The .total expenditure was £729 5s 103.
