PAEROA BOROUGH.
MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING. The monthly meeting pf the Paeroa Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening: Present : The Mayo. (Mr P. E. Brenan), Councillors F. EFlott, W. Marshall,, G. Lamb, D. Leach, J. W. Silcock, W. Bain, E. Edwards, and the Town Clerk (Mr P, C. Furley). BUILDING PERMITS. An application from C. S. Littlejohn to make alterations to a shop owned by Mr W. Lain “in the main street, to cost about £26, was granted, subject to compliance with, the by-laws. An application by E. A. Morgan, to erect a 14,ft by 10ft garage on his property at the corner of Station Road and Bradley Street, estimated to cost £26, was granted subject to compliance with the usual conditions. AUCTIONEER'S LICENSE. Bernard Stansfield applied for an auctioneer’s and second-hand dealer .5 license and attached the necessary f ees __The application was granted. RYE LANE' FOOTPATH!. Or. Leach drew attention to the storm water that was unable to get away owing to the water-table being blocked on the footpath in Rye Lane, near the footbridge. Referred to the foreman for his immediate attention. ARNEY STREET. Cr. Marshall asked’ that .the oxeye dasies and long grass, bp cut on the edges of the footpath on the lower end of Arney Street. Referred to the foreman. BELMONT ROAD. Or. Edwards reported that the state of the footpath and roadside from the Paeroa hotel down towards the railway crossing had become overgrown with weeds, and that at the present time this was marring the beauty of the work carried out by .the Beautifying Socie.ty in the vicinity of the railway station. He asked if some noxious weed destroyer could not ,>e procured and applied, .as cutting back the weeds seemed to be a waste m time, and in no way checked their growth on the sides of the footpaths. His Worship said he fully concurred with Cr. Edwards, and the Council should assist the Beautifying Society wherever t possible. Referred to the foreman for his attention.
septic tank. With i egard .to the proposed visit of inspection to the main outlet of the septic tank, Cr. Silcock said the tide would permit of such inspection being made next Tuesday. It was decided that the Mayor and councillors would inspect this aJea at 3 p.m. on Tuesday next, when the question of -the danger of the river silting up to the level of the outlet would be thoroughly gone into. Cr. Silcock undertook to provide a boat te enable the inspection to be made. FOREMAN’S REPORT. The fpreman of works reported. I beg to report .that during the past month I have completed the repairs to Belmont Road, the surface of which is much improved. The £nzac Avenue bridge has been renipved to its proper position alongside the fence, and the footpath from the railway crossing to the bridge has been formed and metalled. The general maintenance work beep attended to during the month. FINANCE COMMITTEE.
The Finance Committee reported.— Your committee begs to report that druing the month the revenue has amounted to £296 7s 7d, and expenditure to £76 14s 7d. Including the attached accounts,, which your committee recommends for payment, the balance on the District Fund account will amount to £877 7s lOd.
