FATAL ACCIDENT
MAN FALLS UNDER TRAIN. A single man named Robert Fulton, aged 55 years, a batteryhand employed at the Victoria Battery, Waikino, was returning to Waikino from! Paeroa by the Waihi train on Wednesday evening, when he alighted to speak to some friends on the Karangahake station. Whilst chatting the train commenced to move out of the station, and Mr Fulton ran aPong the platfdi'm and caught at the stanchion of the carriage next to the guard’s van. The unfortunate, man missed his grip, and tlje spectators were horrified to see him dragged under, the guard's van. The train was promptly brought to a standstill, when it was, f|ound that the man had become entangled round the bogey of the van, and, when extricated was alive, but his body was badly crushed and he was bleeding freely from the mouth and ears. He was conveyed to Waihi station, where Dr. Short met the train and ordered his removal to the hospital, where Fulton died without regaining consciousness. Deceased had been working in this district, for a number of years, and was very popular, among his many friends in Waikinp. An inquest is to be held.
