COMMITTEES’ REPORTS. At the meeting ofl the Paeroa Borough Council on Tuesday evening the following reports were presented: BUILDING COMMITTEE. “Your committee begs to report thac the following applications have been received during the month: W. Smith, workshop, Willoughby Street; P. Barakat, alterations to house, Esplanade ; W. L. Lawrence, erection of house, Willoughby Street. “The above were granted, subject to compliance with the by-laws, and we ask your approval of our action. “An application has just been received f:om Mr R. I. Roberts for a permit to erect a house for Mr Martin in George Street. We recommend same being granted, subject, to compliance with the building by-laws.”

WORKS COMMITTEE. “Your committee begs tc report that during the month the thorough repairing of the surface of Belmont Road has been practically completed, and a great, improvement has been effected. This work has cost £177, including the bitumen. .. “As'the foreman pointe out in his report, the work of sanding and tarring the main street footpaths will be undertaken early in the new year. “The drains in-the Station Road area have now been cleaned, and the low-lying lands in this area are getting good results from the work. “A letter is before you from Mr A. Duff, of Thames Road, complaining that the water main from Which his house is served is too small to enable them to get water continuously. We recommend that the matter, be looked into by your committee.

“We also recommend that Mr Bridge’s application to have water laid on to the property by him in Coronation Street be granted, subject to compliance with the wate r by-laws.” FINANCE COMMITTEE. “Your committee, begs to report that during the month the revenue has .amounted to £599 7s . 3d and expenditure to £143 3s lOd. Including the attached accounts, .which your committee recojnmend for payment, the balance of the District Fund Account will amount to £1026 5s sd. “Re rates. We. recommend that the ten per cent, penalty Jje imposed on rates not paid by January 9, .1923. “Re holidays. We reedmmend that the office be ’closed from Saturday, December 23, until Monday, January 8, 1923, both days inclusive, and that, the finance committee be to pay necessary wages.” WORKS FOREMAN. “Since my last report most of the staff’s time has been employed in the repairing of Belmont Road, which is now completed with the exception of a few hours’ work. ' I was hot able to complete* this work as quickly as I had hoped, owing to the inclement weather, and to other stoppages that were unavoidable. All the bitumen on hand was utilised on .the road with the exception of a few gallons that I am keeping for emergencies when required. “Other works during the month include the repairing of Railway Street path, Hall Street path, and Queen Street path.. Wharf Street from Belmont Road to the -theatre has been cleaned up, and the road metalled where required with, some metall I had on hand.

•‘This week, will be taken up with general, cleaning up and repairs, and after Christmas I intend to commence on the rnain street footpaths, tarring and sanding same."
