HIKUTAIA NEWS.
OBITUARY. His many friends have heard with great sorrow of the death of Mr James Prendiville, who passed quietly away in the Thames Hospital early in the week after a long, lingering illness. Of quiet and unassuming manners, and of a most kindly disposition, the deceased was highly esteemed by all who knew him, and their sincere sympathy is extended to Mrs Prendivifle and ,the four children, whose ages range from four to ten, who are left to mourn their loss. PERSONAL. While delighted to see them starting out "for themselves) the many friends of Messrs W. Lane and James Oliver, regret thein departure from Hikutaia; the former to commence business in Waihi,. and the latter in Auckland. Both will be greatly missed—in sporting circles especially. ■ SCHOOL GARDENS. Mr W. Hudson, agricultural instructor to the Auckland Educatipn Board, was in Hikutaia last week, when he took occasion to visit the home gardens' of the pupils of the district school. Those of Tom Murphy and Charlie Thomas were highly commended, and received high marks. This is the initiation of a scheme well calculated to continue in a practical and utilitarian manner the instruction received in school. THE HOLIDAYS. A general exodus of holiday-makers is anticipated, the commencement being expected on Friday and Saturday next.
