DISTRICT NEWS.

WAITAKARURU. THE CHURCH BAZAAR. Though tihe rain marred the final night (Wednesday) of the bazaar held at Waitakaruru for the purpose ot raising funds for the proposed soldiers’ memorial church, the financial result was very gratifying, the takings totalling £125. There was plenty of amusement an the Wednesday evening, when most, of the competitions! were decided, the following being the winners : Mr E. Barlow, large cake; Mrs J, Porter and Mrs Bennett (tie) small cake; Mi Lever, pen-painted cushion; Mr Stretton, doll. There were also shooting and naildriving competitions, which wete very popular attractions. Mr French won a 561 b tin of honey for the men’s nail-driving competition, while Mrs Hunter was presented with a tpay, beautifully carved by Mr Beaver, for winning the ladies’ nail-driving competition. Another inlaid table, the work of Mr Beaver, together witjhi an eiderdown quilt, was won by Mr Orr as the winner of the shooting competition. Needless to say, there is yet a quantity of material left pver from the bazaar, and this will be disposed of at a garden party to be held on Mr Stretton’s lawn on election day.

KEREPE Elm PEKAPEKA ROAD, Further improvements are being made to the Kerepeehi end of Pekapeka Road. The Lands Department has commenced formation work. PROPOSED NEW HALL. In connection with the propsal to erect a new hall at Kerepeehi plans have been prepared to erect a large new building. Provision is made for a shop, cloak rooms, and offices at the front, and a stage and kitchen at the back. The body of the hall is to be 28ft by 66ft, with a small recess on either side. Although the site has been nothing definite has been done in connection with building matters.
