TALL FESCUE.
USE AS ENSILAGE. An informal, but interesting dis r mission regarding the use pfj tall fescue as ensilage took place among the members of the Hauraki Drainage Board, after the meeting on Friday. The discussion arose when, one members expressed his appreciation of tire Orongo soldier settlers’ sentiments as expressed in verse form by C, J. Dean, and which appealed ini the issue of the “Gazette” of Monday, 20th November. . Mr Gray said that some of th'? fescue at Orongo was 6 feet high. The ground Ibad been ploughed amt not touched since. Recently he went after some bullocks which got Into this fescue, and it was so high that he could not. see the animals/ which, were among it. 1 Mr Baker said he had’ been told tih,at a man at Wharepea used the fes-
cue as ensilage. The cows liked it, and would not touch hay while they could get the fescue ensilage. A Voice: Then there would be a fortune at Orongo. Mr klcMillan said he knew of! a farmer wlho was making ensilage out of buttercups. Mr Mules : Any old thing will make ensilage? Thistles will make ensilage. Mr McMillan : Thistles make good ensilage.
