LOCAL RIFLE SHOOTING.

♦“T7 —“ NO. 2 HIKUTAIA MATCH. The local rifle range w.as a scene of animation on Saturday afternpon, when the Territorials' of the No. 2 Regimental District took part ip the annual rifle meeting, No. 2 Hikutaia match being fired. Captain Peacock, N.Z.S.C., was principal range officer, and w,as ably assisted by Staff Sergt.Major Busby, and these officers spared no pains to encourage the boys and make the match a successful oneThe wind was favourable, but the heat and glare of the sun was very trying, and was not conducive to big scores being registered. The match was fired in three groups', -as, follows : Application, 200 yards. 5 rounds ; rapid fire, 200 yards, 5 rounds; snap-s'lwoting, 200 yards 5 rounds. The possible number of points was 55. Corporal D. Haskell shot very consistently and finished up with a creditable score of 50, thereby winning a cash prize of 12s 6d and Major Edwards’ trophy. Private A. A. Jenkinson was run-ner-up with a total, of 48, winning the trophy presented by Constable McClinclhy. ' • Below are the detailed scores, with Application, Rapid fire, and Snapshooting scores in that order, with the total points and amount of prize : D. Haskell, 19, 16, 15 ; 50 —12s 6d. A. A. Jenkinson, 19, 17, 12 ; 48 —7s 6d. J. Walls, 16, 16, 12; 44—7 s 6d. J. Holwell, 12, 15, 12 ; 39—55. H. Bidois, 14, 15, 9 ; 38—5 s. A. E. Denton,’7, 15, 15 ; 37—55. A. G. Lawrence, 12, 12, 12 ; 36—55. L. Rowe, 13, 13, 9 ; 35—2 s 6d. R. D. Flatt, 14', 11, 6 ; 31—2 s 6d. A. R. McDonald, 11, 14, 6 ; 31—2 s 6d. S. Kerr, 10, 14, 6 ; 30—<2s 6d.
