TENNIS OPENING.
A “WASH-OUT." DANCE A SUCCESS., The rain pn Saturday prevented the official opening of the local tenpis season, which had been arranged for that day, but the tennis dance, which took place Uie same evening in the Soldiers’ Club, was a decided success, and a fair number attended. The M’s.C. for, th'e evening, Messi’s C, Wells and I. Towers., carried out their duties so satisfactorily that things seemed to run by themselves. The'music was kindly supplied by Mrs Budd, and as usual left nothing to be desired. Miss C. Taylpr sunplied the only extra, which was’ above criticis.m. The event of the evening was the streamer daftce, each person being supplied with a roll of coloured paper ribbon. As the dance proceeded the dancers launched their roils of paper into the air, retaining one end. In a few moments everybody was entangled in yards of multi,-col-oured ribbon, and the effect was that all were caught in a veritable spider’s web of brightly coloured strands, A simple but delicious supper followed when the dancers had succeeded in disentangling themselves, and after a few more dahces the clock struck the midnight hour and every; one departed after a thoroughly enjoyable evening each lipping that this dance would not be the last of tennis dances.
