PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING, * The monthly meeting pf the above committee was held oh Saturday evening last. Present: Messrs C. H. Pascoe (deputy-chairman). A- JGarry. W. Redfern, W. T. Power, E. E. Gill man, and W. L. Lawrence, secretary and treasurer. Mr G. H. Taylor, beadmaster, was also in attendance. Apologies for absence were eceived from Messrs W. H. Taylor (chairman) and B. E. Veale. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling some £3B were passed for payment. MANUAL TRAINING SCHOOL. A letter, was received from the architect of the Education Board, Auckland, advising that a revised estimate and plans for the erection of a manual training school at Paeroa had been prepared and forwarded to the Department in .Wellington for consideration.
The committee decided that in the event of the Prime Minister visiting this district prion to the elections the chairman, headmaster, and Messrs Garny and Gillman be a deputation to wait on Mr Massey and point put the delay occasioned and the urgent necessity for the establishment of a manual training school in’Paeroa. SCHOOL SEPTIC TANK
The septic tank, which is now in disuse owing to the connections with the sewerage scheme having been completed, has' been sealed at both the inlet and outlet vents, apd has been passed as quite sanitary and satisfactory in every way by the district health inspector, Mr Franklin. It was decided that a foot of earth be placed over the top of the tank.
jSCHOOL PADDOCK. It was reported that the wires round the school paddock had all been t'ghtenccl up and battens put on where necessary. A drinking trough had also been installed, and was working satisfactorily,, and ample water for the ponies was assured for the summer.
- SADDLE SHED.
The roof of the saddle shed Had been heightened and extra saddle racks provided and the accommodation for saddlery increased. BOYS’ ENTRANCE TO SCHOOL. The work pir the boundary fence and entrance opposites the sheltershed, it was reported, was proceeding, The concrete hacTbeen laid and the steps were nearihg completion. The work of levelling the rear portion of the playground would be commenced within the next few days. When this work has been competed the committee proposed tp have\a number of seats distributed 'round the play ground. DRINKING FOUNTAINS. The question of installing several drinking fountains was left in the hands of Mr Gillman, with power to act, SCHOOL HOURS. It was decided to write to the Education Board and object to the school being kept’ open for full days during February, and ask’ that the headmaster and chairman of the committee be granted power to use /their own discretion as to what hours should be worked, it being pointed out. that when .the weather was hot and oppressive the children naturally became restive and listless and could not be expected to give attention to their work. I ~ GENERAL.'
It was decided that the committee meet the headmaster at the school this afternoon, when an inspection of the school grounds would be made with a view to arranging such work as would improve the playing area and generally beautify the grounds.
