NETHERTON RATEPAYERS
AN ASSOCIATION FORMED. ; CO-OPERATION WITH TURUA. About 20 Netherton ratepayers met in their local hall on Saturday evening. There were also present representatives of the Turua Ratepayers’ Association. Mr J. A. Reid, one of t’lie conveners, was elected to the chair. The chairman said that at a meeting held on the previous Saturday night it had been decided to call a meet’ng to consider the proposal to form a ratepayers’ association. It was proposed by Mr T. Vowles and seconded by Mr J. Munro that a Ratepayers’ Association be formed. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr Newman of the Turua Ratepayers’ Association, read the proposed rules of the Turua association. One clause was that the association would be non-politic. Mr J. Munro said he would like to see some agreement arrived at with the Turua association to work for a common cause. It was decided that the subscription be 5s per annum. The followi'ng officers were elected : President, Mr T. Vowles; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. Munro and J. A. Reid ; hon. secretary, Mr H. Hare; executive committee, Messrs R. IIHeappy J. Taylor, J. H. Carter, S. J. Laughlin. J. B. Whisker, C; Stembridge, and C. Potter. NETHERTON’S ACCOUNTS. Mr Heappy said it would be advisable to obtain from the County Council a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection’ with the Netherton riding. The figures given by the county clerk at a recent meeting were unsatisfactory. If the figures were gone fully into he claimed that expenditure could not be fully accounted for on the figures given that evening. He moved that tlie secretary write to the County Council and ask for a detailed statement of accounts of the Netherton tiding during the past .two and a half years. Mr Whisker seconded, and the motion was carried. A DRAIN OUTLET. The president said that the dipper dredge was now near Wilson’s Roan, and they should urge upon the Public Works Department to take steps to prevent flooding. An additional outlet from drain H to the river should be blocked up. Messrs Vowles. Taylor, and Reid were deputed to wait, on the local Public Works Department official to have the opening in drain H closed. VOTES OF THANKS. Mr Munro said he would like to thank the conveners of the recent meeting which the county councillors attended. Mr Reid, as one of the conveners, said it was Mr J. Carter who had first mooted it. It was eventually decided to thank the conveners, especially Mr Carter. Mr W. Madgwick (Turua) thanked Netherton for the support they had given Turua re the bridging scheme. Mr Sutton congratulated Netherton on the stand it had taken in that connection. The Turua representatives were thanked for . their presence at the meeting. It was considered that the two associations could work in co-operation with each other.
