Owing to a misplacing of headings in the Lyttelton Times of August 8 a summary of the balancc-jsheet of Goldsborough, Mort and Co. Ltd., was placed under the heading of “Gisborne Gas.” The error, to which attention has just been drawn, has had some unusual consequences. A Parliamentary candidate in Gisborne quoted the figures from the Lyttelton Times to show the huge profits the local gas company was making. Goldsborough, Mort and Co. had a net profit for the year Qf £174’437, and it can be understood that, to ascribe •such a profit to the Gisborne Gas Company, whose paid-up capital is only £53,542. made it appear that the Gisborne concern is doing some tall profiteering. The actual profit made by the Gisborne Gas Company for its last financial year was £4036 3s sd.
