WHANGAMATA NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.)
Mr .L. May, resident. Public Works engineer, Paeroa, was at Whangamata about ten days ago to furnish a report on the proposed new wharf. It is hoped that work on this most important structure will be started at an early date.
A general meeting of settlers and ott'erp interested was called at the Whangamata Hall on Saturday, 12th inst., for the purpose of discussing a suggestion with reference to transferring a grant from the Whanga-mata-Waihi Road to the WhangamataHikutaia Road.. A motion was carried in an emphatic manner to the effect that no such transfer should be considered. At a subsequent meeting of the Whangamata Settlers’ Association a similar motion was carried.
A dance was held at the Whahgamata Hall on the night of Saturday, 12th inst. and a large gathering spent a very enjoyable evening. Splendid growing weather is at present being experienced. The pastures. etc., are looking in good heart, and the prospects for the season appear to be very favourable.
