rii ■> following cases weis heard before Air J. H. Salmon, S.M., .at the Paeroa Magistrate’s Court bn Monday: BIRTH REGISTRATION. Geo, Te Paorp Wilkinson (Mr MonI tague) was charged with {jailing to furnish particulars concerning the birth of a child within two months to the Registrar bf Births. Joseph G. McDougall appeared for the general registrar of births of Maoris, and said the only way the birth could now be registered was by way of the court He did not press for a penalty, but only that the birth be registered. Mr Montague said defendant was a married man with eleven children, and was out of work, He pleaded for leniency.

Defendant was convicted and orjdered to pay costs, 225. MAINTENANCE ORDER.

An application was made by a young woman for affiliation to be made against Blake Davis, who, it was alleged, is the father of a male illegitimate child, of which the complainant is the mother, The defendanc did not appear. An. order of afIL liation was m,ade, and also an order for maintenance of 10s per week, court costs apd other expenses amounting to £l9 9s also to be paid. CIVIL CASES'.

Judgments by default were given in the following cases : Maxwell and Brasi v. Maratotp Timber Co., £lO3

Is 7d and costs £4> 3s ; H. A. Marks v. Robert Whitten, £2 12s 6d, and costs Bs.

An order for payment to E. W. Porritt was made against Thog. Roberts for £9 2s forthwith, in default nine days’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended so long as debtor pays £1 per, month.
