FOR-BEACHING MEASURES IN DENMARK.

Far-reaching measures for the protection of the health and comfort of the farm worker have come into force in Denmark since the beginning of this j ear under an Act passed on May 6, 1921, says “Industrial and Labour Information,’’ the weekly publication of the International Labour Office of tho League of; Nations. When board is provided as part of the remuneration food must be of good quality, as well as sufficient. Not more than two persons may share the bedroom provided by the employer. which' must be light and airy and must have not less than sixteen cubic metres’ space for one, and twenty-five for two occupants. Rooms used for sleeping purposes may not open directly into cattle-sheds or stables. The text of the law prescribes the minimum of furniture wh’cii the employer must supply for each room; a separate bed is to he assigned to each worker, and definite regulations are made' fop sheets to be changed at stated intervals. If a worker is ill his employer iniist continue to give him board and lodging, and must provide adequate attendance on tke premises so long as the contract of employment lasts, or he may send the worker to a hospital; but may not send him elsewhere ! without the patient’s consent. After one month’s sickness the hiring con- j tract may be dissolved by mutual agreement. Boys and girls under 16 must no; be worked beyond their strength, and

may in no case be epiployed beyond the 'hours customary in the district. Their tasks must be so organised as to admit of their attendance at evening. technical, or continuation schools and classes unless in the contract it has been agreed that the hours of certain kinds of work cannot be modified for educational purposes.
