PERMANENT ROADING.
THAMES COUNTY PROPOSALS. Details of negotiations for a subsidy for a permanent roading scheme in contemplation by the Thames County Council were given by the Chairman (Mr. H.. Lowe) at the Council meeting on Wednesday. Mr. Lowe said that while in Wellington with the Mayor pfl Thames he had approached the Minister and ap-< plied for a £ for £ subsidy of £20,000 proposed to be expended on the main south road for bitumen binding, the cost being £40,000. There were certain loan moneys available. Even if the Government had not the mopey immediately’ available, he asked that the Council be able to go on with the work with, the money available .and that the Department give the £ for £ subsidy later on. A permanent road with bitumen binding would be money well expended. If the grants or money were spread over two or three years it would be satisfactory. The Minister bad promised-to go into the matter. He had been sympathetic.
