WAIHI BEACH ROAD.

IN A BAD STATE. The state of the Waihi-Beach Road was brought up for discussion by Cr. Corbett at the County meeting. He suggested- pooling the rates gnd doing something to help the settlers. The Council should spend some money on the road, and he suggested that the matter of expenditure of rates should be left with the Engineer or himself. The Clerk : But very few of them have paid their rates. The Council recently paid over to the Waihi Borough Council for expenditure on the road. A Councillor : Then they should pay their rates if they wanted any sympathy from the Council, Cr. Morgan said they would get more consideration if they paid their rates. Some say they won’t pay, and in view of the circumstances he thought that the settlers had been well treated. The Clerk : The agreement with the Waihi Borough Council is still in force, and the County cannot do anything. Cr. Corbett : Then the sooner it is done away with the better. The Chairman said that possibly the Borough might do something as soon as the adjustment of the beach sections is completed.
