ENTERTAINMENTS.
CENTRAL THEATRE PICTURES TO-NIGHT. “MIDSUMMER MADNESS.” “Mdsumraer Madness,” to be screened this evening, is the picturization of; Cosmo Hamilton’s society nove’. “His Friend and His Wife. ’ The story centres around two young married couples. Daisy Osborn is too devoted to her husband, Julian; he longs for new worlds and women to conquer. Bob Meredith, is not devoted enough to his wife, Margaret; she longs for romance. For a time she seems to find it in Julian!, and, under the spell of a moonlight midsummer midnight, she is led into an indiscretion that threatens, when it comes to the ears of a professional scandal monger, to ruin four Hives, But light dawns upon Bob Meredith anti tragedy is averted. Mr De Mille seems, in this picture, to have introduced a camera within tour walls of two typical homes of the better sort. It is this true-tto-lifeness that gives “Midsummer Madness’'’ its terrifl: punch and appeal. This is aided by the excellent acting offered by Lila Lee, Lois Wilson, Jack Holt, and COnra;l Nagel in the leading roles.
ANNETTE KELLERMAN.
TOMORROW NIGHT.
Commenting on a performance at Christchurch, the “Press”- saysi:-r-A packed house greeted Annette Kellerman and the Tivoli Follies (who will, appear at the Central Theatre to-morrow night). Miss Kellerman, whose piquant and viyacious personality permeated the whole entertainment, again appeared in numerous roles, and her entry was the signa) for a storm of applause. It might be said of her that public favour was attracted by 'her reputation and captured by her merits' (for her success was instantaneous and maintained. After a eleven exhibition of. toedancing, and in response to . insistent requests, she repeated her Oriental dance, and the wierdand sinuous movements gripped the deeply interested spectators. Miss Kellerman’? wire walking exhibition was also clever, but it was in her aquatic performances that she achieved her fullest measure ..of glory. The company has twenty artists, and is travelling with two tons of effects. The following are some of the members of the company: Mr. Stuart Barnes, comedian; Tom Donnelly, clever dancerMartinin, one of the foremost acrobats ever seen in the Dominion ; Miss Penny Winson, contralto ; Rosie, the wonderful little dbg: Alf Norden in his musical treat, “ The Chimes ”: Boh Dick at the piano. The box plan is at Flatt’s.
