AN ALTERATION RUMOURED. NOT DESIRED AT NGATEA.. PRESENT feUN SATISFACTORY. A rumour being current that tihere was an alteration contemplated in the present daily mail services between Paeroa and Ngatea, erton and Kerepeehi, caused a short discussion at ithe annual meeting of the Ngatea branch off the N.Z. Farmers’ Union on Saturday, Mr W,. G. Hayward presiding. The discussion was not lengthy, owing to the meagre information obtainable, but by the tone of the remarks no alteration would be viewed favourably by the Ngatea folk. Mr Davidson said there had been talk of the mail to Ngatea leaving Paeroa at noon instead of at the present time, 3.30 p.m. It was only a rumour he, had heard, but he thought it was on good authority. Mr Hayward thought the rumoured alterations would be against Ngatea's interests, and he was supported by Mr Clare, who said the present service .was quite satisfactory. Mr Davidson proposed writing to the Chief Postmaster, asking if there was any foundation in the rumour. It was also decided to point out that the present, service was beneficial to the district, and that l any alteration would be detrimental. Mr Cleaver seconded, and the motion was carried unanimously. . Mr McDuff said that there had also been a proposal flor the Auckland express to leave Thames two hours earlier. He did not think that would suit NgateaThis matter, a. member thought, could be left to the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce.
