MOTOR SERVICE ROUTES

NGATEA-POKENO PROPOSAL. BAY OF PLENTY CONNECTION. The proposal .to inaugurate a motor service between Pokeno and Ngatea was brought before the annual meetnig of the Ngatea branch of the Farmers’ Union on Saturday, Mr W. G. Hayward presiding. The opinions expressed were similar to those recently published in the "Gazette.” Mr Cleaver (outgoing secertary) said he had received a letter from Mr W. Heaven, of Maramarua, who was proposing to run a motor service from Pokeno to Ngatea. Subsidies had been promised, and if the proposal was favourable Mr Heaven would address a meeting at Ngatea. Mr McDuff thought Mr Heaven was a bit previous witjh his service. He may run in the summer months, but he could not do so in the winter. Mr Hayward thought the charges would be too high for ordinary purposes. Mr J. Bratlie said a Tauranga firm (he thought it was Walker’s) was contemplating linking up the Bay Of Plenty with Pokeno with a direct service. Mr eHaven’s letter was received.
