BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above society was held on Monday evening in the Borough the committee maintaining its reputation for good attendance. In reporting that! the' public stand erected in the main thoroughfare would be painted on Wednesday, the suggestion was made that an official opening- of the stand should take place on Friday evening pf this week. The matter was left , in/the hands pf the secretary to arrange, he being instructed to ask the Mayor to officiate, and to get the help of the Salvation Army for band music. • The secretary reported having received the completed lease of the railway section frpm the Department, and it was decided to immediately get the blackberry grubbed put, and as soon as the Borough Council does the draining, and as money comes ;o hand, to proceed with the work of beautifying that important section. Discussion of the difficulty of getting the guarantors’ amounts in hand resolved, itself into ‘a decision that in one or two cases where there was an absolute, refusal to meet the obligation legal steps be taken to collect the amounts due. The trees planted on Mackay Street were reported to be doing well, with the exception of one, which seems to have been killed by , oxide having come in contact .with the roots; It was decided tp have tihis tree replaced at the proper season. The general meeting of all members was announced for May month.
