LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The car licenses for Paeroa races are all being endorsed on the understanding that the maximum fare from the town to the racecourse, and vice versa, is 2s, as in previous years. An article by a local writer which appeared in the “N.Z. Herald” recently pointed out the detriment of river siltation to the shipping trade with Auckland. A striking example which should act as an incentive to farmers indifferent to the welfare of their district was displayed last evening, when Mr W. Mclnnes, president of the Kaihere br.anch of the Fanners’ Union, rode 23 miles, from Maramarua, to attend a meeting of the branch He also rpde the same distance back after the meeting.
