RIVER WORKS COST.

WAIHOU AND OHINEMURI. PLAINS COUNCIL’S SHARE. UNFAIR ALLOCATION. The Rivers Commission’s allocations regarding the cost pf the Waihoit and Ohinemuri rivers works was criticised at Monday’s meeting of the Haaraki Plains County Council, Mr J. C. Miller presiding. Cr. Harris thought, the Council should enter the strongest protest against the allocation of 33 per cent towards the ' river improvement scheme.- "He thought the proposal was outrageous, The Council could not rate people on the west side of Piakp River and the people between the two rivers could not bear that burden. It was a matter the Council should give its earliest consideration. Cr. Death supporting Cr. Harris said that action should be taken as one body by all' local authorities joining forces. Cr. Harris moved that the Council should 1 enter immediately an emphatic protest l against the commission’s ‘finding and’ allocation. Cr. Hayward seconded and the motion was carried unanimously.
