PAEROA GOLF CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. " SOMEWHAT MIXED.” There was a very good attendance, especially of the lady at the fourteenth annual meeting of the Paeroa Golf Club, held in tne Returned Spldiers' Hall last evening, .retiring president, Mr J, L. HatiffUjl being in the chai?. The annual balance-sheet and report submitted by the secretary* Mr Ivan Towers, were approved and adopted. A debit of £2O was disclosed. Mr S. J. Bishop boldly .complained that the afternppn teas last year were the poprest he had and were no credit to the Club. He thought the tea committee should show a balance, instead of a profit of £3 15s 2d. ' There was a chorus of explanations from the ladies, and the storm in a tea-cup simmered down- Mi's F. S. Budd fired a parting shot l by telling the gentlemen that the ladies had conducted their, part in a businesslike waV, and showed a prpfit,' whereas the gentlemen’s affairs showed a debit of £2o.* (Laughter.) There* was a little more "fizzing” over sundry matters!, but no violent explosions. There are, apparently, no “ dumb driven pattie ” in the Golf Club, for each member, of either sex, made no bones about voicipg ever grievances, imaginary or ptherr wise, they possessed. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Mr F. S. Budd proposed that as the vice-president (Mr R. P. L. Miller) would not accept the presidency, that Mr Hanna be asked to accept the position for the ensuing year. Continuity of occupancy in the presidential chair would be conducive to greater efficiency. Mr S. J. Bishop seconded. Mr C. Kenny proposed, and Mr Hanna (retiring president), and also Miss Thorp, seconded, ,a motion that Mr A. White be elected. Before the ballot Mr White appealed for all members to pull together and support the president, whoever might be elected. He made this an Indispensable condition of his acceptance of nomination. The ballot resulted in Mr White being elected. Mr F. Si. Budd accepted t.he position of vice-president, but refused to so act later when ladies were put on the committee, which policy, Mr Budd said, he disagreed with, and always had done so. Mr R. Hubbard was then elected. There was much difficulty in securing a captain; despite all persuasions, Mr S. J. Bishop refused to accept nomination, and at. this.stage no other wouljl. Secretary-treasurer;, likewise nil. General Committee: Mrs. Miller, Miss Thorp, Messrs E. W. Porritt, Dr. Smith, and R. P. L, Miller. The following new members were proposed: Misses Alice and Grace Jones (Wharepoa), M. Couper, Buchanan, and Messes S. J. Hedge and F. Wells. x a Mr Towers agreed to be acting-sec-retary pro tern, but all efforts to get the captaincy vacancy filled were unavailing. A spirit pf diunity seemed to pervade the meeting from beginning to end—or nearly the end; the "Gazette” representative left the inharmonious gathering at 10.30 pJm., at which hour "complimfents,” veiled and opeix were still passing rpund freely.
