THE RIGHT OUTLOOK.
One way and another, much has been done during the past year or two by way of dispelling the impression among uninformed—or misinformed —outsiders that Paeroa is not on the road of progress. A great deal more could be accomplished if Paeroa people when visiting other centres would make a point of impressing upon those with whom they come in cohtact the undoubted advantages Paeroa possesses. Cheap water carriage, a railway junction, daily motor and mail services to the Hauraki Plains, electric current for power, lighting and heating purposes, a sewerage system in the course of installation are among a few of the things that might profitably be mentioned. And let it be made clearly understood that with its roads, railways, and river systems leading west to Auckland, east to the East Coast, south to the Waikato, and north to Thames and Coromandel, this town possesses unique geographical advantages, and is admirably suited as a headquarters from which activities may radiate over an immense stretch of territory, •including the Hauraki Plains, much of which is admittedly among the best land in the Dominion. Optimism is infectious, and so is pessimism; the man who fails to speak optimistically about his home town and district is losing an opportunity of helping the place along on the road of progress, and he who speaks pessimistically about Paeroa and district not only displays a great ignorance of its present condition and a profound lack of foresight, but he is a traitor to his fellows. “It’s an ill bird that fouls its own nest.” Nothing is so objectionable as boasting, but on behalf of a district like this there is certainly every justification for “boosting.”
