At thp Thames race meeting on Sat-, urday Messrs Casey and Jones, of Auckland, both of whom, are .Obi Thames Boys, promised to donate a 50-guinea cup for the’ next) year’s meeting. ' The total amount put through the totalisator at the Thames meeting on Saturday was £20,568, a decrease of £10,654, compared with the first day last year. There is, little doubt that' this amount would have bpen considerably increased if better facilities to purchase tickets were provided' for the public. An interesting and encouraging contribution to the subject off local prices by those obtaining elsewhere was given to a representative of the “Gazette” last week by a Paeroa business man. The informant was in Auckland, and was obliged to purchase a new motor, tyre. On comparing prices, he found that he could have bought! a similar tyre in Pae-| roa, booked, for 2s 6d less than what he' paid cash for in 'Auckland. The cash prite in Paeroa was Tower still. The annual cleaning of all Lands Deparftment drains in the district has commenced, in order to make the drains ready fpr the winter. Schedules of the Waikato Central A. and P.
