Farmers’ Union was held on Saturday evening, Mr B, Dunlop presiding. 1 Mr Dunlop said he took a letter pertaining to the Paeroa-Pokeno railway to the Paeroa Chamber of merce, and-the chamber was pfl the same opinion as the Morrinsville Chamber, that the members of Parliament should he taken over the Plains. He further said it was expected that Various local bodies, should subscribe to the treatment of the party and see that they were taken over the ground. The union might be asked to contribute. 1 ' Mr G. Death .thought it was a matter only for local bodies. Mr Dunlop explained that 7 th? branch had been pushing the project. Mr Death said the Thames Harbour Board had refused .to make any grant till it was ascertained what ground the party would cover. Me thought there was no hope of getting the railway through the Plains till, the Tauranga-Waihi line was completed. ’ Mr Dunlop sai<J the late, manager of railways had contended .that th? line should be put through to obviate the ‘ duplication of the FranktonAuckland line. It was pointed out that while th? Hon. Mr Herries was alt Tauranga he had told the Tauranga people hot to push the Waihi-Tauranga till the Paeroa-Pokeno line was. built.
