HAURAKI PLAINS WATER.
GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATION. The intention of the Government in regard to a waler supply for the Hauraki Plains was the subject of inquiry by Mr H. Poland (Ohinemuri). The reply circulated on. Thursday is . “Water is available for stock from artesian bores, and up to the present settlers have been able tp conserve rain water for domestic purposes. To assist settlers to form a water supply association and obtain a better wate supply, the Government provided funds for engineering inspections. As a result it was found that the supply of water by means of open flumings was inadvisable. Several sources of supply have been investigated an! are now under consideration. It appears, however, that a satisfactory scheme would cost over ( £50,000, and probably the Hauraki Plains County Council is the best authority to carry out the scheme.”
A comprehensive report on this subject was published in the ; “Hauraki l*lains Gazette” some months ago.
