CLEARANCE SALE.

AT WHAREPOA. MR S. BAX’S HERD. One pf the largest clearance sales held in this district took place at Mr S. Bax’s homestead, Whareppa, yesterday, conducted by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co., Ltd. Some 149 dairy cows, .also calves, bulls, pigs, and farm implements were soldThere was a good crowd present from all parts of the district, and the bidding was very fair, considering the times, the prices being well above the average, 143 cows aggregating approximately £1755, or £l2 10s each. The direction of the sale arrangements was in the hands of Mr Johnstone Bailey, and reflected credit on his management, and tha-t of Messrs Bax Bros., the whole lot being put through without delay or hitch of any kind. A word of appreciation for the luncheon arrangements is also due to Mrs Bax and friends who assisted her tp catpr for such a numerous company. The affair was well organised and systematically carried out.

Mr R. Wily auctioned the. implements and. Mr B. Dunlop the stock. It was announced that Messrs Bax Br.os. were desirous of carrying on the farm, and would probably purchase 30 or 40 head, but on exactly the same terms as anyone else. The following are a few of the. prices noted by a representative of the “Gazette” present: Tip dray, £lO ; spring dr,ay, £l4 10s; waggon, £27; mangold distributor, £3O; rubber-tyred gig, £4O; milk cans, 8 at £2 10s and 11 at £1 15s ; Pigs.—Weaners, Ils 6d; empty sows, 47s 6d; stores, £3; boar, 3 years, 30s; Berkshire boars, 6 and 7 guineas; sows in pig, 4 and 5 guineas.

Jlorses. —Draught, £33 ;. aged mare, medium weight, £35 ; aged mare, £lB ; trap mare, £2O ; 3-year pony, £7 ; pony mare, £2 10s: 4-ye.ar-old trotting mare, Miss Gladys (Waverly—Miss Ellice), won at Te Aroha last year, llgns; bay mare, gig, 23gns ; hack, £5 10s; gelding, Gold Bell—Marr Kate, got a bid of 30gns, but the reserve was 50gns—not sold ; 2-year-old c.m., 24gns . hack, by Gold Bell, 30gns ; filly, £l2 ; yearling filly. Gold Bell —Nutansel; 13gns ; colt, 25gns ; child’s pony, £7; Shetland, £ll.

Cows.—As above stated, the cows averaged out at £l2 10s. Forward springers ranged from £lO to £29, according to breeding, age, and nearness tp profit. Two brought £l5, two at £l9, one at £l9 10s, one a? £2O, and one at £2O 10s. Aged cows ran from £3 to £B. Cows in milk.—Two at £2O, two at £2l, two at £22, three at £26, .one at £27 10s, two at £2B, one at £3O ; others fetched £l5, £l6, and £l7. Empty heifers were let go a*t from £4 17s 6d to £5 15s.
