FROM THE RIVERS COMMISSION.
In criticising the Public Works Department, Mr Richmond, in his final address, said that Re could not conceive why the chiefs of the Department were not at the Commission to bear the burden,
“Some of .these figures may have come as a great shock to some of us,” said the chairman as Mr A. J. Baker’s proposed rate allocations were made known. “We are getting used to shocks now,” laconically piped a tired and "fed-up” voice.
Mr Clendon said that the hard bar mentioned in Friday morning’s evidence was nine chains below the Criterion bridge and the sample in question was taken 15 chains below the bridge.
