Fire.

The house owned and occupied by Mr Sam. Baird, at Starrtown was destroyed by fire on the Sunday after Chsistmas. It appears that the family went away on Friday to spend a holiday, and left everything apparently safe, but on Sunday morning about two o’clock, an alarm of fire was given, but nothing could be done to stay the progress of the fire, and everything was destroyed. Mr Baird being away, nothing could be ascertained as to the insurances, but it is practically certain that Mr Baird will be a heavy loser.
