Belgian Social.
The Belgian Social held on Wednesday evening last in the Minei s’Union Hall was a most pronounced sucess. The hall was crowded from an early hour, and things went with a swing that showed that all present were enjoying themselves. The proceedings opened with a 4 fine selection by the Huntly JOrchestra, then followed the usual round of dancing, interspersed with songs very acceptably' rendered by Mrs G. M. Fraser, Miss Boyle and Mr Geo. Shaw. During the evening, the ladies were very busy selling lollies and badges in aid of the Fund, and with the returns from these and door takings a very substantial addition should be made to the Fund, as the expenses were almost nil. Light refreshments provided by the ladies were handed round during an interval and Mr Bailey (Chairman of §the Town Board) in a short speech gave to the ladies much well deserved praise for their strenuous and successful efforts. The dance music, as rendered by the Huntly Orchestra, wen the praises of all who indulged in the terpsichorean art. SEND OFF TO THE DEPARTING TROOPERS
A movement is on foot to give a send-off to the departing troopers who leave on the 28th for Trentham. We have felt before that those who have gone to the front, have been allowed tD depart in rather a cold fashion, quite a number of young men are going in this batch, and those who are remaining behind will be glad of an opportunity of wishing them God speed, and of showing in a slight degree that they appreciate their action in thus risking their lives for the safety and integrity of our glorious Empire. This is a movement in which every one, no matter what his party or opinion should join most heartily, and we trust that the send off will be of such a
character as to leave in the minds of the departing men, a pleasing memory which will be to them an inspiration in times of difficulty, danger and hardship.
Arrangements have already been made to hold the social on Thursday evening next in the Miners’ Hall, and a strong committee has been set up to carry the scheme into effect. It only remains for the people to roll up in their hundreds for the affair to be a success.
