The Belgian Fund.
The people of Huntly are sometimes slow to move, but when they do move it is to some purpose. Up till a week or two ago, but little had been done here in|aid of the Belgian Fund, but as tho result of a little agitation, a party of the ladies took tho matter up, and with the energy characteristic of the ladies of Huntly. immediately began to push the matter ahead’ And, by the way, whey any movement in Huntly is pushed along with energy, we usually find the ladies behind it. Buti to returd, the ladies formed a committee, decided on a course of action, and immediately Huntly began to feel the effect. On Monday, five parties of ladies (they hunt in couples) each with a district to canvass, started out to collect, with a most gratifying result, for quite a large sum of money was raised. On Wednesday evening a most successful “ Bread and Butter ’’ social was held in the Miners’ Hall, while an an active canvass for prizes for the sport® to be held in the Recreation Ground was made. To-day and to-morrow a st eet collection is to be taken up and to-moirow will be a great patriotic day, with a procession accompanied by the Huntly and Waahi Band® to the Recreation Ground, and children’s sports to follow.
On Sunday evening, pie wsek is to wind up with a sayred concert in the King’s Hall. The energy displayed by the ladies in this most deserving object is beyond praise and they are to be sincerely congratulated on the results of their efforts. The list which lies at the Town Board Office, has received some addition this week, although the efforts of the ladies have naturally tended to prevent money flowing in this direction. The total amount received at the office is £l9 7 0 made up as follows :
