Hibernian Social.
HUGE SUCCESS. The first of a series of socials in connection with St Anthony’s Lodge of Hibernians was held in the Miner’s Hall on Mondayevening last, and proved a huge success, there being upwards ot sixty-five couples present. The building was appropriately decorated with green facings, while the typical emblems of Old Ireland ” —the harp and the shamrock—affixed as they were to the walls in the different parts of the hall, were an incentive to remembrances of the true Irishman’s beloved native land. During the evening songs were contributed by the Misses Prendergast, Stone and Bartle, and Mrs W. J. Ralph, junr.
The commeneent of the funcfunotion took the form of a promenade, and was headed by members of the Lodge in Regalia, while the musicians played the English, French rnd Russian Anthems. Numerous card tables were also placed on the stage for the non-dancers, and were taken full advantage of. A word of praise is due to the committee who left no stone unturned to make the evening a success, while the music, which was supplied hv Mr and Mrs W. Darby and Miss Fallon, was all that could be desired. Miss Grace Berry and Mr Boyle kindly provided the extras. Messrs T. Molloy, F. Farrell, A. Woiwod and A. Berry, as M’s C., proved very efficient, and did everything possible to assist those present in enjoying themselves.
