MR L, H. McCALMAN. About a month ago Mr L. H. McCalman, who, for for some years was one of the Post Office staff and who was a keen worker in connection with St Paul’s Church, was removed to the military camp at Trentham. His departure left a large gap among the church workers and his loss has been severely' felt. As a Lay Reader, Mr McCalman, did much strenuous and most acceptable service ; as a Sunday School teacher, his work was most highly appreciated, while he also took on his shoulders the bulk of the work in connection with the care of the Chureli grounds. In all these labours, Mr McCalman, was most diligent and conscientious, and could always be depended on to be in his proper place ar the proper time, while there was so little ostentation about his work, that few of the churchpeople knew all his activities among them.
As the notice of his removal was so short it was impossible at the time to do anything to mark the appreciation of his work which was felt by those whom he had served for so long. However, as soon as possible, the parishioners were given the opportunity of expressing their esteem and a good response was made, with the result that Mr McCalman has now been presented with algoldiwatch guard and two volumes of books on subjects known to be interesting to him. While the people of St. Paul’s has suffered such a great loss, it is pleasing to know that Mr McCalman has already found scope for his energies in his new environment, and we are all sure, that the influence which a man of his character can wield, will have a most wholesome effect at the camp.
