A special train will run to the Waikato Caledonian Sports tomorrow (Saturday). Tickets are available for return on day of issue only. • Reference to our advertisement columns will show that the first sale in the newly established Ohinewai Sale yards is to be held on Friday the 26th inst. A good entry of cattle is expected, and if the neighbouring farmers give the enterprise the support it deserves, a most successful sale should result.
The National Piano Company, Ltd,, of Auckland, announce in another column of this issue, that they have on view in the King’s Hall, several bargains in the piano line. These instruments, which are by the best of makers, will not only be sold at ridiculously low prices, but sold on the easiest terms imaginable. The Sports, which are to bs held on the Recreation Ground on March 27th in aid of the Huntly Mines Disaster Relief Fund bids fair to be a great success. The entries for the various events are a record, and if the acceptances corne up to expectations some very good contests should take place. Financially, success seems to be assured. Subscriptions are coming in freely, many trophies have been donated, and given a fine day, there should be d large attendance of the Public and a good gate.
The committee of the newly formed Bowling Club are showa commendable energy in pushing on the affairs of the Club. On Tuesday evening they met and put in a strenuous evening drafting a set of rules and outlining a scheme of finance. The rules and scheme will be laid before a general meeting of the club at an early date, and if the Club as a whole shows the same degree of push that is shown by the Committee, there is every prospect of the Club soon being in possession of the much desired green.
Pickpockets and petty thieves are plying a busy trade just now, the former being much in evidence at race meetings and sports gatherings. A huge gathering like that at Ngaruawahia on Wednesday, was a golden opportunity for the pickpocket, especially when tho rain came on and people began to crowd themselves together for shelter. The picdcpocket, as a rule, does not waste opportunities and from all accounts they made the most of tlie day and the gathej ing. They are credited with having made quite a good haul, relieving quite a number of their cash. It is reported that one or two Huntly people sufferered very savorely, It would be well, when going into crowds for people to keep a sharp watch on their pockets, otherwise they may come home sadder and poorer than they went out.
