Belgium Relief Entertainment.
The entertainment in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund to be held in the Miners’ Hall on Wednesday night promises to be one of exceptional merit. A special feature of the programme is the concluding comedy “ A Tipperary Schoolmaster ” to be presented by a troup of boys from the local school. The lads have studiously prepared their part under the direction of one of the teachers and judging by rehearsals can be relied upon to win unmixed applause in this novel little act. The comedy which is based on Will Carlton’s masterpiece, “ The Irish Schoolmaster ” has been modernised by a local pen so as to bear directly upon the present war and being as it is pregnant with most amusing incidents cannot fail to evoke a great deal of laughter. During the second part of the programme various vocal and instrumental items, most of them patriotic selections will be given by eminent local artists. Mr George Calder of the Lyceum Picture Company has generously undertaken to supply the first part of the programme and is at present arranging to secure some exceptionally fine war films that have stirred the patriotism of large audiences in the Auckland theatres.
Whilst the primary aim of those organising the function has been to augment in a small measure a fund to Relieve the untold misery and suffering of the people we can never repay, still no pains have been spared to make the programme one of the best that has ever been presented to local theatre-goers.
