Police Court.
On Monday last, Alfred George Smyth, alias George Aston, was charged before Messrs Farrell and Fletcher. J’.s P. that he did steal the sums of £4 10s and £3 5s from W. J. Tracey and K. H. Aspden. It came out in evidence that accused had been • befriended by the' -two complainants, and had visited their respective boarding houses in company with them on Saturday. Afterwards, when he had made -s ire that they were safely away, he had gone back and had stolon tho amounts stated above. Accused pleaded guilty to j . both charges and admitted three j | previous convictions for theft. ! The Bench characterised the : ; offences as particularly mean, and the accused to I six months Imprisonment on the ] first charge and three months on ; the second with hard labour, the I sentences to be concurrent.
